We stayed the weekend at Whispers Estate in Mitchell, IN. The investigators present were Amy, Adam, Jason, Chris, Phil, Holly, and Nate. We arrived here Friday August 14th, 2009 in the evening. Whispers Estate owner Van Renier gave us a walkthrough with details about the history and paranormal activity associated with Whispers Estate.
Our investigation started with all of us in Jessie's Room. This is the room where Jessie Gibbons died of pneumonia. We all settled in around 10pm, due to the reports of people seeing a shadow figure of Rachel peeking around the corner at the end of the hall. Chris was doing some temperature readings and as he had the infrared beam pointed at the end of the hall Adam and Chris saw something cross through the beam. While everyone else went into the servants quarters, Amy stayed in Jessie's Room. Amy and Van were talking and heard something in the closet twice. Something sat on the bed next to Amy and they heard footsteps coming up the stairs. While the others were coming out of Rachel's Room, Chris heard an audible "you're scaring me," by the stairs.
Amy and Holly were investigating the Doctor's Office in the operating room. They both felt someone touch their legs. Holly felt the bad shaking and she heard a groan.
Jason, Chris, and Phil went to Rachel's Room and tried communicating with her. They were rolling the ball back and forth to see if they could get Rachel to do the same thing. Rachel was moving the ball in a zig zag formation.
While in the Doctor's Office Phil heard a female voice. Nate was in the restroom off the Doctor's Office and the floor was shaking like an earthquake. Jason & Phil then headed back up to Jessie's Room, Phil asked if he could hear a knock and they got a clear knock. Shortly after Jason closed the door it opened up on its own.
Saturday afternoon we all went to Lake Monroe to go swimming except Jason. He decided to stay in the house alone and go over some evidence from the previous night. The following is Jason's paranormal activity log while we were gone:
3:10pm - Sitting in front room heard females talking, sounded like coming from Jessie's Room. The only word able to be made out was "hurry".
3:40pm - Went to kitchen for a coke, walked past the fireplace, smelled like it had been on. (Fireplace does not work).
3:45pm - Sitting in Parlor can smell fireplace in here.
4:00pm - Put headphones on to listen to digital recorder, heard a loud bang. Went outside.
4:30pm - Went back inside still had headphones on heard loud bang again.
Saturday nights investigation Phil, Holly, Chris, and Van's two friends were up in Jessie's Room. They saw Rachel peek around the corner by the servants quarters between 10:15pm and 10:45pm.
Late Saturday night into early Sunday morning there were a few other incidents. Two of Van's friends came out to stay in Rachel's Room and observe our investigation. After our investigation and they went to sleep, one of them was awakened by someone playing with her hair. She looked up and saw what looked like Rachel run off into the closet and disappear through the wall. They got freaked out, packed their stuff and left.
Phil was laying down trying to sleep in the Doctor's Office and he felt someone tug on his leg and tap the bed. He looked up but did not see anyone. He asked who ever it was to please stop. Phil was the only one awake after Van's friends left and he heard doors closing and walking around when there wasn't anyone upstairs. Phil also smelled the fireplace as if it had been burning.
Phil, Holly, and Chris left earlier than Amy, Adam, Jason, and Nate. Before the last group left Adam and Nate heard a lot of movement going on upstairs. Banging and walking around.
Are the rooms of Whispers Estate truly haunted? Is there a logical explanation to the noises and voices being heard by different people in the house? After spending the weekend here we have come to the conclusion that Whispers Estate is haunted by the spirits of Rachel, Jessie, Dr. Gibbons, and possibly others.
