The Vollrath opened up in 1926 and was in business during prohibition. This establishment was known as a speak easy. John Dillinger was a frequent at this tavern. He would stay in the basement drinking and playing cards all night long. When the law was onto him he would use the tunnels in the basement of the tavern to make his escape.
There are a few things that have been reported to have happened at this tavern paranormal in nature. The mirror has been said to have cleaned itself and a huge hand print appeared in the upper right hand corner that did not come from any of the employees of the tavern. People have reported seeing and hearing things at one end of the bar where no one was. Downstairs is where the band hangs out and inside is a cooler that has been reported to occasionally shut on its own. Shadow figures have also been seen in the band room as the employees would pass by this room with the door open. Two apparitions have been seen. One was seen walking from the kitchen to the bar and another seen walking from the stage area into the pool table room.
Over the course of the night we investigated every area of the tavern. Amy's arm was touched the first time we went into the band room downstairs. The second time we investigated in the band room Amy's arm was touched again as well as Phil's arm.
When Jason and Amy were in the band room, Amy heard tapping on the wall behind her. Behind that wall is the area where John Dillinger had escaped from the law, no one is ever back in that area.
When everyone was in the basement, we all heard a really loud noise that sounded like something large was being scooted across the floor.
Amy and Holly were sitting at the bar just listening and heard someone walking behind the bar and after looking around a bit there was no human presence around the bar area. At about the same time they heard a noise that sounded like someone sat down on one of the bar stools at the end of the bar and again no one was there.
Adam, Jason, and Phil went downstairs where this light has been reported to turn off on its own. We turned the light on and checked for any wiring problems and found none. We left that room with the light on and walked into the next room. We came back five minutes later and the light was off. We were the only people down there.
Towards the end of the night when we were all upstairs, Amy was gazing out the window and all of the sudden saw a full body reflection that would be coming from inside the tavern at the end of the bar where weird things have happened before. No one was outside and no one was over in that area inside the tavern.
