We investigated Whispers Estate on August 14 - 16, 2009. Whispers Estate is considered one of Indiana's real haunted houses. We investigated this home on April 2009. This house is owned by a single occupant. The home was previously owned by a farmer and his wife whom lived in the home for 20 years. They both died in November 2004 within one day of each other. Some claims of activity were footsteps, knocking, banging, sounds of TV being on when it was not, and items being moved about the house. |
We investigated this home on April 2009. The couple had only been in this house for about a week. They claimed that from the first night they stayed there some things had been happening. Claims of activity are: Scribble marks appearing on the wall in one bedroom, that was not there before. Also an apparent "H" written on the wall as well as one carved into the window sill in the kitchen. They have been hearing footsteps, knocking, and scratching. There was a strong smell of death in the kitchen around the door to the basement. They also had feelings of nausea. Cold spots all over the house and jewelry had been moved. The story goes that a woman lost her baby son named Lester in the 1930's and the baby was buried here at Stepp Cemetery. She then spent much of her time at the cemetery watching over her son's grave and singing to it. The story of this cemetery is that a ghostly police officer from the 1950's is seen patrolling the graveyard with a blue light. There is also a cave by the cemetery where there have been reports of people seen a figure with red eyes in the cave. The story of this bridge is, a little girl, named Edna Collins use to play on and around this bridge. When it was time for her to come home her parents would drive onto the bridge and honk three times, so she would know they were there. One day when her parents came to get her, they honked, but Edna never came. Later they had found she had drowned. The urban legend states that if you drive onto the bridge and shut your car off, honk 3 times she is supposed to get in the car with you. We did and she didn't! The story we have read about Hell's Gate is as follows; Hell's Gate is a train overpass, where according to legend a train derailed, killing several people. Many people still visit this site believing that paranormal activity occurs here. When you arrive at this tunnel you are supposed to go through it, turn around go back into the tunnel, stop in the middle and turn off your car. After several minutes you can see blood seeping from the walls and hear loud banging around you car. Then if you see your name on the walls, it meant your impending doom. The tunnel is full of graffiti, so more than likely you will see your name on the wall. |
The story behind The 100 Step Cemetery: At midnight, if you walk up the stairs counting them, when you get to the top, turn toward the open field and the ghost of the Cemetery's first caretaker will appear. Without saying a word he will reveal your death to you in a vision. The climber MUST proceed down the steps, counting them again. If you do not get the same number as you got going up then you will die the way the caretaker showed you. If anyone dares to climb up the grass beside the steps, they will be pushed to the ground by a Phantom Hand, which will leave a red imprint for several days so those who see it can see the mark of the Devil. The only stories I have heard about this Cemetery is that there are many "notables" buried here. There are several suicides buried here also. There are many stories associated with this rundown asylum. When I was a child my mother worked as a pharmacy tech at Central State. One of the stories she told me was about the murder of a boy (Larry) they called "the paperboy". He was killed by a patient at this hospital. When Larry was 12 years old he was hit by a car. From then on he was mentally challenged and had the mind of a six year old. One day a man came in telling workers that the boy was laying in the fountain dead. Come to find out the man who reported his body is the one who killed him. Larry was beaten with a rock. His body was found in the fountain, in front of the Bolton building, which at the time was a dry fountain. One of the stories I have heard is about a man who hung his wife and shot her in the head with an arrow. She is said to haunt the cemetery still today. I have read reports of people hearing wild laughter, unearthly growls, reports of being shoved, and the feeling of oppression. Others have heard voices and felt very unwelcome almost as if they were forced to leave and chased out to the main road. People have said to have heard footsteps and whispers. |
I have only heard a couple things about the Mississenewa Battlefield. Many have said they have seen spirits of soldiers by their graves. Also by the Mississenewa River you can hear footsteps running through the river. If you listen carefully one can hear the sounds of gunfire and battle cries. There are a few similiar stories involving several Cry Baby Bridges in Indiana. The story we heard was that a woman had thrown her baby over the bridge killing the baby and now if you stop on the bridge you can hear a baby crying. From our investigation, we concluded that it was just the water running under the bridge and the wind blowing by and through the bridge. The Story here is that when you come close to Werewolf Hollow there is a stop sign you will come to that is bleeding. As you drive further, you come upon some cornfields where a male ghost is there to stop you from continuing on and if you do proceed he will scratch your car trying to stop you. There are supposed to also be some haunted abandoned houses in this area. The story of this cemetery is that a 12 year old boy, named John W King, was killed by a nearby train and was buried here where the foundation of the house was. There have been reports of people seeing John around this property. We went here on Fridat May 22nd. We did some EVP work and walked back on the trail in the woods. We took several pictures, but never caught any evidence. |
